Short Bio
I have been involved in some form of art for most of my adult life—a span of over 40 years, mostly in pastel. I am a member of the Pastel Painters of America and Portrait Society of America as well as three local art societies: Valley Art Association, Potomac River Artists Guild and the Women’s Art Gallery at FMH Crestwood in Frederick MD., I continually exhibit in many art shows throughout the region in Maryland, West Virginia and Pennsylvania and have donated pieces to various charities. My paintings, especially my pastel animals have won awards over the years. My customers range from animal (and people) lovers to art collectors and I have completed many commissions. You may have seen my van, with the sign, “Carol’s Critters” on the back window with some examples of my work. I use a variety of media in my work. In addition to pastels, I use charcoal, acrylics, oils, watercolors and inks. Although, portraiture remains my first passion, I also enjoy a variety of subject matter from landscapes to still life. Throughout the last 30 years I have continued to expand my education in the use of various media through formal education and individual instruction. I am an art instructor in acrylics and oils. In addition, I offer workshops and demonstrations on the use of pastels. The paintings I create are mostly based on my own photos and drawings, created in my studio at home. I have a website: carolwilks.net (Carol’s Impressions) that I continue to update with new paintings. I encourage you to browse my gallery and let me know what you think. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to tell you about myself. Carol Wilks
